Who We Are
Jodie Marynowski founded JB Maryn in March of 2012, turning a lifelong dream into reality. She had always wanted to be a personal shopper, and gift-giving was a favorite hobby. After an illness during the holidays left her wishing she could hand someone her Christmas list and have everything picked up and wrapped, she realized she could combine both passions into one business.
About a year in, the vision grew from simple baskets into something more distinctive — hand-painted redwood crates built by artist Art Bromberg in their Humboldt County studio. Together, Jodie and Art create gifts that carry the warmth and character of California's north coast.
At JB Maryn, the journey from a simple basket to a hand-crafted redwood crate reflects a deep commitment to thoughtful, personal gift-giving. What began as a desire to take the stress out of holiday shopping has grown into a beloved local service rooted in the spirit of Humboldt County. Every crate and basket is assembled with care, filled with favorites that feel personal rather than generic, and designed to make someone feel truly remembered. The emphasis has always been on the joy of giving—taking the time to curate something unique for each recipient, no matter the occasion.
The gift concierge approach means clients don't have to navigate the overwhelming world of online shopping alone. Instead, a dedicated team listens to what matters—budget, tastes, relationships, and the specific meaning behind each gift—and builds something that fits. Whether it's a birthday, a thank-you, a holiday, or just a day that needs a little extra joy, the focus stays on affordability without sacrificing quality or heart. Local sourcing and hand-painted wooden crates add a tactile, organic touch that mass-produced gifts simply can't match, reinforcing the personal connection between giver and receiver.
Beyond the products themselves, JB Maryn is about community and convenience. From local pickup in McKinleyville to delivery options that make sending thoughtful gifts easier than ever, the service is built around real people and real relationships. The gallery and blog offer inspiration for those who want to share love with family and friends, while custom orders allow for truly one-of-a-kind expressions of care. With a warm, welcoming approach and a passion for making every gift matter, the business continues to celebrate the simple joy of sending something meaningful.
About Our Crates
Every crate is hand-built by Art Bromberg from reclaimed Redwood found right here in Humboldt County. The wood carries a history — each piece has its own grain, knots, and character that no factory product can replicate. Art often paints the crates, adding a personal artistic touch that makes every gift one of a kind.
These aren't just containers. They're keepsakes — meant to be reused, displayed, and remembered long after the gifts inside have been enjoyed.
