A -I tried a fun, little craft project for Vday, and I made some concrete hearts. They are super simple to make, for only about $15. The supplies you will need are a tub of instant concrete (Quickrete). This can be found at any hardware store. The only other thing you will need is a silicone hart tray. The one I got is for making ice cubes. As it turns out, I was able to get both items at Mckinleyville Home and Garden , way to go Ace! It’s a good idea to have a disposable mixing cup, some stir sticks, and paper towels as well.

The first step is to mix up the concrete with water. There are mixing ratios on the tub, but I am a man, so I just eye balled it. If you slowly add water and mix together, you should be just fine. You are looking for a brownie batter consistency, without any lumps. Once it feels right, be prepared to work quick or else you will have a cup of concrete. Pour/scoop the mix into the molds. I like to give them a little jiggle to get some bubbles to come out. I’m not sure if that actually works, but its fun.

The hearts will be ready to come out of their molds after about an hour. They will need to cure over night, if you want them hard as rocks. The bottoms will be a little rough, so either grind them down with sand paper, or just give them some scrapes on the street. I decided to hit them with a little festive paint, but they look pretty cool just plain grey, I think. I hope you give this a try! Working with Quickrete if fun and easy, and I was also able to patch a few holes in our driveway with the left over!
