J- So often cash is the best gift option. Who doesn’t want a little extra cash, and you are guaranteed the recipient won’t return or regift it. But let’s face it, it’s really boring to give and hard to wrap. I was inspired to find some creative ways to give cash when I was listening to a podcast interview with a blogger I follow, Unique Gifter . As I was listening to Anne’s interview (you can find it here) , she started talking about a really adorable way to give cash as a wedding gift. That idea sparked this entire post.
The first idea that caught my attention was Anne’s interview talking about a “Build Your Own Castle” gift. This idea centers around the idea of couples looking to build a life and home together. Cash comes in handy to help the lucky couple make improvements and updates or use towards their down payment. I found the sand castle mold bucket at the dollar store and purchased a couple of bags of rice. I added some stuffing to the bottom of the bucket so I only needed one bag to fill the top, this also kept the bucket from becoming too heavy. I then typed “To Help Build Your Castle” in Word and printed it out and cut around it, pasted it to some patterned card stock and found a couple of stickers to add some detail. Stick the money coming out of the rice and you are all done. Or if want to make them hunt for the cash, you can always bury it in the rice. This project doesn’t add to much extra cost to the cash itself and it is really cute. Another idea that was mentioned to me while at an appointment, was doing a similar set up but using a nest theme instead. It would be nice if you could find some lovebird salt & pepper shakers to add.
This next ideas is B’s personal favorite. This might just be because as a grown, childless man he actually had a reason to have play-doh in his house. He couldn’t wait for me to finish with the photos so he could start molding it into shapes and sniffing it. Weird. Anyhow, back to this idea. I found this while looking through P interest and found a link to the blog About Family Crafts . This is such a simple but fun idea. I measured the top circumference of the lid, typed out the saying in Word, made sure the font fit the size, and then printed it out. I used a circle punch to cut it out, then used a glue dot to stick it to the top of the lid. Then wrap your money around the play-doh, and stick it back into the container.
Last but definitely not least, the hiding it in the candy jar trick. This idea came way to me, by way of a good friend of mine. She sent me to this pin on P interest . I think this is a fun idea for a teenager, or adult candy lover. And you aren’t limited to just using candy. Take an old toilet paper roll and place it in the center of your jar (cut down if it doesn’t fit). Then pour your candy in-between the jar and outer side of the roll. Once full, use a little tissue paper and stuff it into the bottom of the roll to keep any candy pieces that may have fallen in there from rattling around. Leave enough room to stuff however much cash you’re comfortable with giving inside. I found this printable here and used some yellow pattered card stock to print it on. I cut it into the shape of a tag and tied it to the jar.
I really enjoyed working on these cash gift ideas. I plan to cover some more ideas later on. How do you give cash gifts?

The nest idea is fabulous, too. I bet a craft shop would have a cute fake nest, though I don’t know how much it would cost. If I ever come across a good inexpensive nest I will be sure to post it.
